New Virus Found
At Buzzingo we use several advanced tools to detect and remove serious infections. Recently we had a customer whose computer was “acting weird.” After checking we found a particularly bad trojan that not only attached itself onto Windows but every single running program, including the antivirus program. After isolating and neutralizing the file we scanned it with VirusTotal, an online service that scans files with over 30 anti-virus programs. It went undetected by Norton, McAfee, AVAST, TrendMicro, AVG and every single other. This was a new trojan!
We removed it from the customers’ computer and kept a copy. We analyzed some specifics and submitted our findings to our favorite anti-virus maker, AVG, to have the trojan added to their detection database. This is the reply we got:
Thank you for your email.
We analyzed the file you sent us and found out it is a new Trojan horse. This infection will be detected by the next AVG Virus base update. Please keep your AVG updated to detect also this type of infection.
Thank you for your sample, we appreciate it.
Best regards,

AVG Technical
We kept a copy of the neutralized file on one of our computers and sure enough the next day AVG pops up with this:
Our new discovery had been unceremoniously named Trojan horse BHO.GPE and Buzzingo customers and all other users of AVG were now protected against it. It has been a month since we first discovered it and rescanning the file on VirusTotal shows that the following anti-viruses still do not have it in their database and fail to properly detect it: AhnLab-V3, AVAST, BitDefender, Comodo, eSafe, GData, McAfee, McAfee+Artemis, PCTools, Prevx1, Rising, TrendMicro, ViRobot and VirusBuster.
Even the anti-viruses that can detect it may not be able to properly remove it from already infected systems, merely prevent infections in clean ones.
Most other computer techs merely scan infected systems with several anti-virus programs to repair them. Unfortunately, this only works against known threats and is ineffective against more serious infections. The visible signs of the infection may be gone but it is still running hidden and will likely return.
Don’t take chances and waste money paying someone to push the scan button on your anti-virus program. Buzzingo has years of knowledge and experience in detecting and cleaning all infections, and we employ the latest state-of-the-art tools. We can fix it all, including new ones and those other techs can’t fix and say “reinstall windows” to. We also charge a low flat rate so no matter how tough the repair and how long it takes the price is always the same.
